Dusting Powder Introduction :

A powder used on the skin or on wounds especially for allaying irritation or absorbing moisture is called as Dusting powder. Dusting powders are usually mixtures of two or more substances in fine powder, intended for external application on to the skin (wounds, burns, surgical incision). Powder bases absorb secretions and exert a drying effect, which relieves congestion and imparts a cooling sensation. Bentonite, kaolin, kieselguhr, magnesium carbonate, starch and talc are used as inert bases for dusting powders.

Dusting powders are used to prevent and treat minor skin infections caused by small cuts, scrapes, or burns. Some skin infections can also be treated by using dusting powders such as athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm. It also relieves burning, itching, cracking of the skin and discomfort caused by these infections.

Types of Dusting Powder

There are 2 types of dusting powder:

1) Medical– For superficial skin conditions, medical powders are used. They must be free from pathogens. Some mineral ingredients may contain spores of tetanus, gas gangrene etc. and so they must be sterilized properly. They are not used for open wounds or area of broken skin which is mentioned in the label also.

2) Surgical– Surgical dusting powders are used in body cavities and major wounds, on burns and on umbilical cords of infants also. They are sterile powders.

USAGE OF DUSTING POWDER IN FUNGAL INFECTION :

It is used for the prevention or treatment of fungal infections resulting from sweat and moisture accumulation. It provides relief in the case of prickly heat on the back, neck, and shoulder. In addition to this, it prevents itching in intimate body parts, underarms, inner thighs, waistline, and feet. It also relieves skin irritation caused due to swelling, rashes, and redness.

 Fungal infections commonly involve webs of the toes and fingers, nails, armpits, and genital area. They cause excessive itching, redness, and swelling in the affected areas. The chances of fungal infections increase during hot and humid weather conditions and excessive sweating. This powder helps you to prevent fungal infections by keeping your body clean and dry at all times.

 It usually does not cause any side effects when taken as recommended by your doctor. However, please be careful when using it. Also, exercise caution when using it around kids as there is a high chance that kids might use it on the face which can affect the eyes and nose, or may eat it unknowingly.

 YU 100 contains itraconazole which belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It treats diaper rashes, tinea pedis, tinea cruris and other dermal fungal infections. It works as a desiccant and quickly absorbs moisture when applied to the surface area and keeps it dry for long hours. It binds of fungal cytochrome which inhibits the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. This disrupts the synthesis of fungal cell membrane.

It may take a few weeks for the skin patches to completely clear up and may take several months for finger and toenails (tinea pedis) to completely clear up after the treatment with this medicine. Your skin or nail will only look normal after new skin or nail has grown, even though the medicine has killed the fungus.

YU 100 Dusting Powder is an antifungal medicine. It kills and prevents the growth of fungus. This relieves the symptoms caused by the infection. It may be used to treat infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, fungal nappy rash, and fungal sweat rash. You should keep using it for as long as it is prescribed even if your symptoms have gone. This will prevent the infection from coming back. Using this medicine as prescribed will relieve pain and itching and may help you feel more comfortable with your skin.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use this medicine exactly doctor has told you. It is for external use only. Before using YU 100, clean and dry the affected area. Gently dust and massage the powder on the affected part of the skin. While applying avoid getting the medication in your eyes or mouth. It is for external use only.
