Liquid Paraffin + Milk of Magnesia + Sodium Picosulfate is a combination of three laxatives: Liquid Paraffin , Milk of Magnesia and Sodium Picosulfate that relieves constipation. Sodium Picosulfate is a stimulant laxative which increases peristalsis (the wave-like movement of the intestines) to push the stools forward. Liquid Paraffin is a lubricant laxative which helps retain water and fat in the stools, while Milk of Magnesia is an osmotic laxative which works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis, making the stools soft. Together, they make stools easier to pass.

This medication is used for a short time to treat occasional constipation. It is a laxative (osmotic-type) that is thought to work by drawing water into the intestines, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. This medication is also used to treat symptoms caused by too much stomach acid such as heartburn, upset stomach, or indigestion. It is an antacid that works by lowering the amount of acid in the stomach.

Indications: 

Short term treatment of constipation associated with:

• Piles

• Anal Fissure

• Cardiovascular disorder

• Hernia

• Pre and Post operative condition

• Endoscopy

• Elderly and bed ridden patients

• Bowel clearance before radioscopy.

Compositions :

Milk of Magnesia : 

Milk of magnesia is practically insoluble in water and solution is not effected until the hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form magnesium chloride. Its neutralising action is almost equal to that of sodium bicarbonate. This medication is used for a short time to treat occasional constipation. It is a laxative (osmotic-type) that is thought to work by drawing water into the intestines, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines.

Sodium Picosulfate :

Sodium picosulfate/magnesium oxide/citric acid solution is used to clean out the intestines before surgery or certain procedures (such as colonoscopy, X-rays). It is a laxative that works by drawing large amounts of water into your intestines and stimulating the colon. This causes watery bowel movements (diarrhea). As a laxative that acts on the colon, sodium picosulfate specifically stimulates the natural evacuation process in the lower region of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, sodium picosulfate is ineffective in altering the digestion or absorption of calories or essential nutrients in the small intestine. 

Liquid Paraffin :

It is used in the treatment of dry Skin. It relieves dry skin conditions such as eczema, ichthyosis and pruritus of the elderly. Liquid Paraffin is an emollient (substance that softens or soothes the skin). It works by preventing water loss from the outer layer of skin. When taken orally Liquid Paraffin acts as a lubricant and keeps the stools soft; it is useful in the treatment of constipation and in painful conditions of the anus and rectum such as haemorrhoids and anal fissure.

Contra Indication 

• Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of composition.

• Acute abdominal surgery, intestinal obstruction, undiagnosed abdominal pain, pregnancy and lactation.

• Contraindicated in children. 

Precautions :

• Do not use without a doctor's advice if you have stomach pain, nausea, vomiting only.

• Call your doctor at once if you have a sudden change in bowel habits that persists over a period of 2 weeks.

• Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.

• Do not use for longer than 7 days without medical advice. 

• Laxatives containing magnesium salt impair absorption of Tetracycline.

• Since sodium picosulfate increases the rate of gastrointestinal transit, it may affect the absorption of other orally administered drugs which are given concomitantly.

How to use F2LAX PLUS

Take F2LAX PLUS by mouth as directed. For the liquid form, shake the bottle well before each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. If you are taking this medication for constipation, drink a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) with each dose. Follow all directions on the product package, or use as directed by your doctor. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Extended use or overuse of this medication for constipation may result in dependence on laxatives and ongoing constipation. Overuse may also cause diarrhea that doesn't go away, dehydration, and mineral imbalances (such as high magnesium).

Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. For constipation problems, it may take 30 minutes to 6 hours to produce a bowel movement. Tell your doctor if this product does not produce a bowel movement, if you need to use this medication or other laxative products regularly for more than 1 week, or if you have rectal bleeding. For stomach acid problems, do not take the maximum dose of this medication for more than 2 weeks unless directed by your doctor. If you think you may have a serious medical problem, seek immediate medical attention.
